Heirs to the Land is a Spanish period drama set in 14th-century Barcelona that follows Hugo Llor, a young man of modest means. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022-).The story was adapted by screenwriter Ulla Isaksson from a 13th-century Swedish ballad, "Töres döttrar i Wänge" ("Töre's daughters in Vänge"). Set in medieval Sweden, it is a tale about a father's merciless response to the rape and murder of his young daughter. The Virgin Spring (1960) (Swedish: Jungfrukällan) is a Swedish film. It's a film based on a real life 16th century historical case of a man returning to village after nearly a decade away and passing himself off as someone else. The Return of Martin Guerre (1982) (French: Le Retour de Martin Guerre). This arguably makes it the most accurate medieval film in the history of cinema. (2) The "script" is the actual transcript of the court records from Joan of Arc's trial. For example, in one scene a fly lands on Joan's face and she brushes it away. This meant the film was a lot more natural than the sort of stylised dramatic acting common for the era. (1) The first cut of the film caught fire and was lost, so the director had to use the second, third, fourth etc takes to make the film again. The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928) (French: La Passion de Jeanne D’Ar). Clive Owen, Kira Knightly and a bunch of other notables. King Arthur (2004.) A take on the Arthurian legend. Takes place in early Britain and involves various pre Saxon tribes. A legionnaire seeks to reclaim the standard of his father's legion. Has Eddie Redmane, Ian McShane and Rufus Sewel among others. Some light supernatural aspects like witchcraft and some shady politics. Centers on the construction of an architect and his family building said cathedral. 4 out of 10.Įdit 4: Pillars of the Earth. Slow and some gross historical inaccuracies. Just watched 'The Keeper.' Pretty disappointing, I would not recommend it. It's Russian and on Amazon (free with ads.)ĮDIT 3. About a European guy who goes to study medicine in the Middle East during the Middle Ages. Another mystery with Sean Connery, based on the novel by Umberto Ecco. This is onAmazon Prime (free with ads or subscribe for no ads.) This is fictional but actually generally historically accurate in a broad sense. Watch the directors cut if you can.Ĭadfael.
